Discovered a 10,000 year old crayon that helps them glimpse into the lives of Mesolithic settlers. “It was excavated by a team led by Andy Needham from the University of York in England, from a site called Flixton School House Farm, which sits on the banks of an ancient lake in North Yorkshire.” The lake is not there anymore but it still contains a lot of artifacts from this time period. They believe they used this crayon to help with color and drawing. Other finds in the area have included beads and pendants, and a collection of more than 30 headdresses fashioned from deer skulls. People can easily argue that this object has nothing to do with this time period, but from the other finding in the area it could be possible. Informs people of what there finding in this area.
Paraphrase Haltman- Basically saying that not all material has a culture to it meaning not everything can be traced back culturally to a group or individual. The people involved in the cultural object, they embody this “object” because its special in some way. They have meaning for the objects they embody.
